Asya Metodieva Researcher
Asya Metodieva is a researcher at Centre for European Politics. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Central European University, Austria. Her dissertation focused on the recruitment of foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs) from the Balkans to Syria and Iraq. Asya’s research focus is on the mobilisation of radical movements and the role of social networks in radicalisation. Her broader research interests include terrorism and other forms of political violence, polarisation and radicalisation activities, and content moderation. Her research is particularly focused on the Western Balkans and Southeastern Europe more generally. She worked as a teaching assistant for courses on Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, Social Media and Democracy, Comparative Political Research, and Public Administration. Asya was a Visegrad Insight Fellow in 2021. In 2019 she was a visiting PhD Candidate at the University of Oxford. She held the 2018 Sotirov Fellowship at LSE IDEAS and 2018 Re-think CEE Fellowship of the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
